After watching the TV coverage of the Republican National Convention last night, I did something I've never done in my LIFE. I stopped at the local party headquarters and picked up yard signs for our front yard. My husband was okay with it, the several times I asked him. We'll see if we get any drive-by or walk-by "embellishment" to our signs. They are:
1. Kerry-Edwards / A Stronger America
2. (Our Democratic candidate for Senate)
It's a pretty weird feeling letting my colors show in any forum whether here, in face-to-face conversations, or in our front yard. Yet I'm a lifelong Democrat and voter.

I never watch either convention. I always feel as if the frenzy that gets whipped up must be comparable to watching the Nazis during one of their book burnings. Everyone's kind of frothing at the mouth, if you know what I mean, so I don't feel that anything meaningful comes out of it unless you're one of the frothers ... and that ain't me!
Debates, now, that's a different story! (Also voting ... I'm all about voting!)
Julie, I can't explain it, but my "reality TV" is to watch LIVE the actual major speeches and political presentations: the president's State of the Union address, major presidential speeches (post-9/11, that kind of thing), and some but not all of the presidential & vice-presidential debates. The only way I can do it, though, is to try to remove myself and be as dispassionate as possible so I can really notice everything. I know it's not working when I get all wound up in agreement or disagreement!
Through the various candidates, issues, and presidents of my 26 voting years, I've found that I much prefer seeing and hearing entire presentations, the body language, the applause or lack thereof, and what was actually said, rather than the few sound bites that the media reports. Those tidbits are always some but not all of the picture. I often tune politics out for long stretches and then tune back in. I guess I'm currently tuned in.
For whatever reason (I think it has a lot to do with my kids being past preschool age), in this election cycle I'm into the conventions. I'll define "into," though. I watch or listen to most of it on most nights, thanks to my patient husband who seems to be getting into this himself, unless we have other commitments. I do try hard to catch the major speakers.
I've discovered that I talk to the TV a fair bit during "my own" party's convention, and a LOT during the other party's convention. I'm not a meek follower. In fact, I may go find each party's platform and actually read it.
My other reality TV is, of course, public TV's Frontier House and Colonial House. Love that stuff!
My reality TV (and I use the term very loosely) is The Amazing Race. I'm addicted after a co-worker finally hit me over the head about it enough times. But that's it.
As for politics I read about it in the paper but don't watch the news, although I realize that the paper is biased also. I just hate those talking heads.
